HENRY YOUNG MEMORIAL CUP The Henry Young Memorial Cup was a sporting award initially discussed in 1923 to be awarded to the winning rowing four at the Senior School regatta. The cup was to replace the previously given mugs and each crew member was to receive a small replica of the cup instead.
In 1925, the House Regatta previously held in in Term 3 and the School Regatta held in Term I were combined. This first event ocurred at 'The Willows' on the Barwon on 27 November 1925. This included events for Junior Fours, Senior Eights and House Fours. Eventually, this cup became the winning house in the House rowing competition. Although not listed in the Speech Day Prize Lists until 1926, the Henry Young Cup itself includes plaques dating from 1924.
The award was not listed in the Speech Day Prize Lists after 1973 though a cup base possibly lists awardees until 1995.
Henry Young (1873-1923) was a dedicated rowing coach for six years from about 1916 until his death in January 1923.
