WORTH, J G

WORTH, J G

J G Worth, staff member was one of 10 staff teachers at the College and taught at the School from 1909 to 1912. He was noted with a particular responsibility for Debating.

He is recorded as Vice-President of the College Debating Society in 1911.
Pegasus of June 1912 commented: 'Mr J G Worth, who has been a member of the College Staff for the last three years is leaving us at Midwinter. He sails for England by the 'Ophir', on July 10th, with the intention of taking up residence in Exeter College, Oxford. He will carry with him the good wishes of all Collegians.'

Pegasus in October 1912 reported: 'Mr J G Worth has now reached England, and has taken up residence at Exeter College. When last heard from, he was enjoying himself in Paris, preparatory to settling down to work at Oxford.' That same issue further reported: 'Since the last edition of The Pegasus appeared the Society has sustained a great loss in the person of Mr Worth. Mr Worth was one of the prime movers in the formation of the Society, and ever since its inauguration in 1908, he took a keen interest in its welfare. Before leaving Mr Worth was presented with a travelling case by the members as a token of appreciation of his work in the interests of the Society.' The December issue of 1912 further reported: 'Mr Worth, who has done a lot for the school, not only in rowing and in the debating society, but also in helping us to get up our concerts, will be greatly missed.'

Following the outbreak of World War I Pegasus in December 1915 reported:
'J G Worth, formerly on the College staff, has gained a commission in the Royal Army Service Corps.'

The Geelong Advertiser later reported: 'Lieut. J G Worth, of the Army Service Corps, has taken up new duties at Hull. He was formerly on the teaching staff of the Geelong College.'
