WHITING, Albert Clarence (1879-1911)


Born at Hexham in 1879, Albert was the son of Albert Edwin Whiting and Elizabeth Robertson nee Murdoch.

He was a boarder at Geelong College, enrolling on 25 April 1894. His address at entry was Boortkoi, Hexham, Victoria. He was a member of the 1st Football XVIII in 1896, 1897 and 1898, the 1st Cricket XI in 1897 and 1898 and Captain of Boats in 1897 and 1898.

He served in the Anglo-South African War, with 11/4th Imperial Contingent being promoted Lance Corporal. He died before the beginning of the Great War on 20 April 1911 at Port Fairy, aged 32.

His brother, Peter Manifold Whiting 1885-1952), was also educated at Geelong College.
