STRETTON, Phillip John Crawford (1919-1987)


Born at Brighton on 6 November 1919, the son of Leonard Edward Bishop and Norah Helen, nee Crawford, he came to Geelong College from 14 February 1934 to December 1936 after attending Haileybury College. He was a Scool Prefect in 1936.

The 'University Jottings' in Pegasus of June 1938 noted:
'PJC Stretton has changed over from Veterinary Science and become a second year Med.'

On 12 June 1943, he married Patricia Eleanor Gibbs, the daughter of Maurice Harrington Gibbs and Gladys, nee Clifford, of Caulfield.

He served (No. 340113) as Captain P J C Stretton, RAAAMC, attached Australian Ancillary Unit from 17 July 1953 until l6 September 1953. Pegasus of December 1953 noted:
'Dr PJC Stretton is serving in Korea with the British Commonwealth Communication Zone Medical Unit.'

He then served as RMO with 3rd Battalion RAR in Korea from 11 January until 13 March 1954, a total of 123 days.

He went on to the University of Sydney, where he graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Public Health in 1974.
