REDE, Robert (1861-1944)
Robert Rede grew up in a family notable, not only for their Geelong historical associations, but more particularly those of the Eureka Rebellion in 1851. Robert's father, Robert William Rede was the controversial Goldfields Commissioner in Ballarat at the time of the Rebellion.
Robert William Rede married Isabella Strachan and their son Robert was the only child born to the couple before Isabella's premature death in in 1862. Robert William Rede then married to have further children.
Robert Rede was born at Newtown, Geelong on 22 January 1861 and was enrolled at Geelong College on 10 October 1876. He had previously attended Ballarat College and Geelong Grammar School from 1875 until his entry to Geelong College in 1876.
He later became a Station Owner.
He died at Parramatta, NSW on 10 January 1944 at the age of 82 years.
