WHYTE, Alistair John (1954-2023)

Alistair boarded at the College from 1971-1972. He was a member of the 2nd VIII tennis, 2nd XVIII football and cross-country teams. His brother also attended the College, Rev Peter Gador-Whyte (OGC 1970).

Following school, Alistair trained at the Bendigo Institute of Technology, graduating in 1975. He then moved to Japan to study at the Kyoto University of Arts and at the workshop of ceramicist Katsuno Hirokuni in Kyoto. This experience and his ceramics practice led him to become a master ceramicist specialising in Japanese Kyoto style porcelain. His work displays a range of ceramics, not only porcelain, that are beautiful and functional.

Over the years he has taught pottery techniques locally and in Vanuatu, where he taught pottery and helped to build kilns.

Alistair passed away 5 June 2023, aged 68 years. He is survived by hs wife and four daughters.
