'Vic' Profitt was a staff member at the College from 1925 to 1961 and is best remembered for his involvement in College sport. In 1925, he coached the 1st Football XVIII to its first APS football premiership – indeed this was the first APS premiership won by College in any sport. He was in charge of football, except for his war years, for twenty-five years.

‘Vic’ Profitt was born in Geelong, the son of William John Profitt and Harriet nee Smith. He played four matches from 1924 to 1925 with the Geelong Football Club but was also familiarly known as a mainstay of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club. As a teacher, he was first employed in the Education Department including at East Geelong in 1918. By 1924, he was at the Gordon Institute of Technology when he accepted a position coaching the Geelong College Football Team. The following year, 1925, he was employed full-time by the College.

During World War II, in September, 1942, he enlisted in the 2nd AIF serving as a Major with HQ Southern Command. He was discharged in February, 1944. He had also briefly served in the armed forces during World War I enlisting on 23 October, 1918 but was discharged on 24 December, 1918 due to the Armistice. During his employment at College, he worked in a variety of roles including Senior House Head from 1926 to 1934 and Warrinn House Head (later McArthur House Head) from 1925 to 1962. He coached football from 1924 to 1950, cricket from 1931 to 1950 and athletics from 1926 to 1962. From 1963, until his retirement at the end of 1964, he organised all Senior School sporting activity as sports secretary. In 1964 he was mads an Honorary Life Member of the Old Collegians’ Association. He also taught middle-school mathematics. The V H Profitt Cup, for many years, awarded to the winner of the Inter-House football competition and later to most successful team in the inter-school football competition was named after him.
