PATERSON-ROBINSON, James Robert


Equestrian showjumper and Olympian, James attended the College from 1984 to 1993 before attending Marcus Oldham College where he gained a Diploma in Horse Management. He has, since leaving school, been constantly employed within the equestrian industry as a showjumper. He first achieved World Cup status in 1996 representing Australia at CSIYr International and in 1998 won the individual gold as well as participating in the Australian Team Gold medal in India .

James is the only Australian Rider to date to be successful at the FEI World Jumping Championships for Young Horses, winning the 5yo World Championship in 2001 and 2003, placing 2nd in the 7yo World Championship in 2002 and placing 3rd in the 6yo World Championship in 2004. He also represented Australia in the World Equestrian Games in 2010 in Kentucky and in 2014 in Normandy. In 2010 James won the 4* Grand Prix of Geesteren, Netherlands and in 2012, won the 4* Grand Prix of Bourg en Bresse, France. He has spent much of his time riding in Europe and has been head rider at Euromill Stables, Holland.

James participated in the London OLYMPIC GAMES of 2012 missing the final after 13 penalties in the third qualifying round to finish with 21 on an extremely demanding course.

James is currently based with Ger Poels Horses in the Netherlands.

James Paterson-Robinson was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
