Bruce McLeod.
member of staff from 1971 to 1996
'joined The Geelong College staff at the Senior School in 1971, bringing with him a wealth of experience and skills. He had gained a variety and breadth of teaching techniques through working in State Technical Schools, but more importantly his overseas travels of some six years resulted in teaching in Canada, the UK and two years at the American International School in Tokyo. He became Housemaster of McArthur late in 1971 and continued for four years. In 1975, Bruce commenced as Boarding Master for Upper Mackie then the following year took responsibility for the combined Mackie House until 1980. A natural love of travel and an enthusiasm for the great outdoors led Bruce to play a leading role in bush camping, excursions to the Grampians and many other adventures. A trip to Lake Eyre when full was a highlight for students of that era. Bruce pioneered gliding at Benalla and this was an annual event for many years. While in charge of Mackie, he organised fibre glass moulds and the construction of canoes. These were the source of much enjoyment during weekends and holidays for many of his charges. As Head of Mackie, and ably supported by his wife Pam, Bruce established a caring, friendly and homely atmosphere where students could achieve their potential - many students of that era will long remember Bruce's kindly traits' . He retired from the College and teaching in 1996.
