McDONALD, Dugald Grant (1860-1929)
Dugald Grant McDonald, farmer, was born at Ascot near Ballarat on 27 May 1860 to parents John McDonald and Ann Craigmile who farmed at Lake Learmonth.
He was enrolled at the College on 1 February, 1876 although no date of departure is known for him. His enrolment address was given as Ewen Cottage, McKillop St, Geelong. His brother William Craigmile McDonald did not attend the School. After leaving College, Dugald became a book keeper and travelled through NSW doing station accounts. Eventually he was offered a position as manager of Multagoona Station north of Bourke in NSW.
On 19 June, 1900 he married Laura Jessie Norqay (1862-1945) at her father’s farm ‘Crestalta’, at Ruby, near Leongatha, Victoria. She was the second eldest daughter of William Norquay. They were eventually to have one daughter and three sons one of whom was killed at the Fall of Singapore during World War II.
He later farmed at Urana, NSW where two of his sons were born, but in 1912 moved the family to a property at Warening Springs, Yoting near Quairading in Western Australia. Dugald died on 31 January 1929 at the Sanitorium, Wooroloo, Western Australia.
