MORRISON, Evelyn Hilda (1877-1967) The following account is from
Pegasus, 1967.
‘Mrs Evelyn Hilda Gaunt, who died at 
Evelyn Morrison.
The youngest of the Doctor's family of eight children, she was born at the College in 1877, only six years after the then new buildings on Newtown Hill had been opened. Part of her education was gained at the PLC, Melbourne; later she travelled abroad for some years. She married Mr C Gaunt, Government Advocate in Burma, and, while living in Rangoon, periodically visited Australia. In 1935 the family returned to Victoria, where Mr Gaunt died in 1942.
Mrs Gaunt remained strikingly alert and active till the last. Although suffering from failing eyesight, which necessitated living in a hospital in Newtown, she could often be seen taking a brisk afternoon walk in the neighbourhood she had known so well as a girl. She was particularly interested in the latest developments at the College. When the modernization of the Morrison Hall was announced, Mrs Gaunt offered to present a portrait of her brother, Norman, to be hung in the hall which is his memorial. Her son, Desmond (1930), and grandson, Clive (1963), are Old Collegians.’ The
E H Morrison Prize, awarded to a girl for all-round ability and service to the College, is named after Evelyn Hilda Morrison.
