MAYNE, Sister Margaret Gwendoline (nee Cunningham) (1915-2006)



Margaret Gwendoline Mayne was a nursing sister at Geelong College for 11 years from about 1951 to the end of 1962. She died in Christchurch, New Zealand on 1 October 2006. She was 91 years old.

She trained at The Epworth Hospital, Melbourne and graduated as a Qualified Nurse in February 1937. After various posts she moved to Mildura Base Hospital where she completed post graduate qualifications as an Obstetrical Nurse in 1940. There she met and married Roderick Mayne. Unfortunately he did not survive a work accident and died in January 1945. Gwen then joined the Bush Nursing Service and moved to the Drysdale area with her young son, Peter.
