MADDEN, Wilfred (1876-1941)
The name 'W Madden' appears on the Geelong College Memorial tablet to those who served in the Anglo-South African War. There is no enrolment record held for him nor does he appear in any of the Annual Report prize lists.
Wilfred Madden was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1876, the son of David Madden and Harriette nee Holthouse. During World War I, He embarked (No 29) as a Private with the 4th Imperial Contingent to the Anglo-South African War War. He was promoted Lance Corporal while in South Africa, and was then granted passage to England and discharged on arrival on 9 August 1901.
It is possibly this Wilfred Madden who was interred at Box Hill Cemetery in 1941 (CE 2458).
