HILLHOUSE, Alexander John 'Alex' (c.1906-1983)

Staff member and sports coach, A J Hillhouse won two silver medals in the three-mile race and two-mile race at the 1930 Empire Games at Hamilton, Canada. He was an Olympian at the 1932 OLYMPIC GAMES in Los Angeles finishing 10th in the 5000 metres. He coached athletics at the College in 1931, 1933 and 1939. Appointed by Principal, Francis Rolland, Hillhouse was one of the first graduates of Melbourne University’s Physical Culture teaching course of the 1930s. He was the son of David Young Hillhouse and Eleanor nee Davis and died at Mentone age 77 years.
