HERBST, Adolph B (c.1835-?)

HERBST, Adolph B (c.1835-?)

Adolph Herbst was, with George Hutton, one of the first two Assistant Masters at the Geelong College when initially established in 1861. He taught Classics from 1861 to 1863. He is believed to have left in 1863. He was earlier, a teacher of French and German at Geelong Grammar from 1857 to 1858 and is mentioned in a series of early advertisements for that School.

He is possibly the Adolph Herbst who arrived in Melbourne on the ship Marion from Hamburg on 3 March 1856.
