GULLAN, James Stirling (1870-1934) He was born at Winchelsea on 4 June 1870, the fifth of nine children of Martin Kennedy Gullan and Margaret, nee Stirling.
He was enrolled at Geelong College on 10 February 1885. When enrolled his middle name was spelt 'McLearn'. He served in the Anglo-Boer War with the 3rd Victorian Bushman’s Contingent, embarking ( No 577) as a Private, and being promoted to Lance Corporal on 5 August 1900, and then to Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant on 25 October. He re-enlisted ( No 17589) on 13 January 1916 Private J S Gullan, aged 44 years, his trade was listed as accountant, however he was discharged, medically unfit in May 1916.
He died on 17 June 1934 at Bruthen, Victoria.
His brother,
Robert McLaren Gullan (1873-1944), was also educated at Geelong College. He served in World War I.
