BEWS, Oswyn Raymond Swan (1893-1958)


Oswyn Bews was born on 22 December 1893, the son of John Bews and Elizabeth nee Bell.

From 1907 to 1908 he was enrolled as a day student at Geelong College. His address at enrolment by Mrs Bews was 37 Bellarine St, Geelong. He won the following academic award:
1907, 1st, Writing, Lower 4th Form.

He enlisted (No 5627) on 13 July 1915 as a Private and embarked on HMAT A54 Runic on 20 January 1916 with 2nd Field Company Engineers (14th Reinforcement Group). Transferred to 15 Field Company, Australian Engineers on 18 March 1916, he was at a 5th Division Gas School for a week from 7 March 1917, promoted 2nd Corporal on 26 September 1917, and Corporal on 3 January 1919. He returned to Australia on HMT Devanha, embarking 8 May 1919.

His death notice in Pegasus noted that he died 23 December 1958 age 65 years and had worked with the State Electricity Commission (SEC) at Geelong.
