ANDREWS, Gordon Donald (1930-2023)

Gordon was born in Bradford, England in 1930. He and his mother, Mary, arrived in Australia a few years later. They eventually settled in Horsham where Mary was Matron on the Abbotsleigh Private Hospital. In 1947, Gordon boarded at The Geelong College, starting in Form V. Sadly, in December that year his mother passed away.

Gordon continued at the College until July 1948. During his time here, he was a member of the relay team and 3rd XVIII. Following school he pursued an amateur running career. He won multiple Stawell 220 and Heidelberg Gifts, and travelled to England for summer athletics meets.

Gordon would go on to work in banking in Melbourne and regional Victoria. He also served as a VFL umpire for many years. He was married to Robin for over 68 years and they have four children.
Gordon passed away 14 June 2023, age 93 years.
