ACKLAND, Roger Keith (1938-2022)

Son of Keith and Nance Ackland, Roger was enrolled as a Day student at The Geelong College in 1943, starting in Kinder. He completed Form VI in 1956, having enjoyed sporting achievements throughout his time at the school. At his final form in the Preparatory School he was appointed Prefect and was the Preparatory School Champion in the athletics competition.

At Senior School Roger would go on to compete in many sports, from athletics and swimming to football. He was the under 14 swimming champion in 1952 and a member of the Athletics, Relay and Football teams for most of his senior school years. He received multiple school and Shannon House colours for athletics and swimming. He received School Athletics honours in his final year, 1956. That year, Roger also received the Norman Morrison Cup, having placed second in the Open Athletics Championship.

Following school Roger pursued a career in finance. In 1960 he joined in partnership to create the firm K. J. Ackland & Co. Then in 1965-66 he completed a Bachelor of Commerce.

Roger was father of three, Jennifer, Robert & Eleanor and had three grandchildren.

Roger passed away 4 October 2022, aged 84 years.
