From an early age 'Georgie' was encouraged as an athlete and won her first National Title at age 11 years. Born into a family of athletes - football players, skiers and runners, it was little surprise that she should resolutely pursue the running career which was to take her to those ‘most successful’ games of Sydney at the century’s turn. Only just 16 at the Sydney OLYMPIC GAMES she ran with distinction in the final of the 1500 metres finishing in 10th place in a time of 4 mins 10.99secs.

As 'Georgie' Clarke she excelled at College. She dominated the APS Combined Athletics meeting in October, 1998 helping Geelong College to overall victory. She broke 3 records: slashed 13 secs off the U15 800m to finish in 2mins 10.29secs - took 4 secs off the U16 400m record to win in 57.28secs - and, shaved 0.42 of a second off the 200m record with a final time of 26.06secs. She was also a member of College's victorious U15 4x100m relay.

‘Georgie’ went on to represent Australia at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Santiago, Chile where she won a silver medal in the 800m and a bronze medal in the 1500m. ‘Georgie’ was a member of Keith House.

Georgina Sutherland was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
