Olympic Women’s Rower, Karina Newmarch was a student at the Geelong College from 1989 to 1992. A member of Wettenhall House, the 1st Netball Team from 1990 to 1992, the 1st rowing IV in 1991 and 1992, she was also a versatile member of the Athletics Team in 1990 and 1991. In 1990 she became the Under 17 APS high jump champion. In 1992 she was a member of the Rowing IV that won both the Head of the River and the National Schoolgirl Championship. She also won the Hobday Prize in 1992.

After leaving School she accepted a scholarship into the Australian Institute of Sport and progressed through a series of national and international events to the Atlanta OLYMPIC GAMES of 1996. She graduated BSc in Sports Administration from the University of Canberra, worked in the Australian Sport’s Commissions Media and Public Relations area before moving to Sydney to establish her own Corporate Health business. Karina was a guest speaker at the launch of the fundraising campaign for the College Recreation Centre Appeal and spoke of the excitement of rowing at Atlanta and the nervous energy that helped them qualify at Lucerne, Switzerland.

Karina Newmarch was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
